Social Responsibility (SR) & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Defined
Social responsibility (SR) begins with the understanding that each of us is dependent on another and thusly responsible for each other and future generations.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders, to ensure a sustainable future. Socially responsible leaders must be the change they seek in the world. Socially responsible leaders cultivate thriving business communities that create sustainable value for all stakeholders. This underscores that all business ought to be conducted cognizant of the people and places it affects.
Why it Matters
The 2015 Diversity Matters Report by McKinsey & Company indicates:
“…It stands to reason – and has been demonstrated in other studies, as we indicate – that more diverse companies are better able to win top talent, and improve their customer orientation, employee satisfaction, and decision making, leading to a virtuous cycle of increasing returns. That in turn suggests that diversity beyond gender and ethnicity/race (such as diversity in age and sexual orientation) as well diversity of experience (such as a global mindset and cultural fluency) are also likely to bring some level of competitive advantage for firms that are able to attract and retain such diverse talent.”
